The Philippine Daily Inquirer and The Philippine Star are now available locally in limited quantities through a pilot initiative by Balangiga.com, with copies distributed and sold through Balangiga Thrift Store (BTS).
Why This Initiative?
To make national newspapers accessible in Balangiga.
To encourage thoughtful reading beyond social media headlines.
To support quality journalism and informed public discussion.
Read Beyond the Feed
Social media offers quick updates—not all of them accurate. Newspapers give us time and space to read more deeply and better understand the issues affecting our communities and the world.
This is also an invitation to rediscover an old habit: Grab a newspaper. Enjoy a cup of coffee. Read beyond the headline. And let the day unfold.
Twice-a-Week Pilot Schedule
For now, both newspaper brands will be available twice a week:
Every Sunday
Once on weekdays: Monday or Wednesday
Help Keep Newspapers Available in Balangiga
Bringing national broadsheets from Manila to a Tacloban distributor, then onward to Balangiga, and potentially to your doorstep on a regular basis involves considerable logistical costs.
Although each newspaper has a cover price of ₱25, copies are currently priced at ₱50 to sustain this service and keep newspapers available locally—provided there is sufficient continuing demand.
The more regular readers we have, the more likely newspapers can continue to be available in Balangiga.
About Balangiga.com
Balangiga.com is a newly launched Digital Community Magazine devoted to the life, character, and possibilities of Balangiga, bringing together features, guides, and resources that matter to its people.
While we are a digital publication, we also believe there is lasting value in print, in long-form reading, and in the simple habit of sitting down with a newspaper.
